About Us

A MOUNTAIN SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM BASED IN VANCOUVER.

The team consists of approximately 50 volunteers skilled in search and rescue operations in mountain, canyon and urban settings. The team provides search and rescue services to:

  • Emergency Management BC (EMBC)
  • RCMP and municipal police services
  • Municipal fire services
  • BC Ambulance Service
  • Other SAR teams in BC and Washington
  • Local and regional governments during civil emergencies

NSR performs approximately 130 search & rescue operations annually, with some operations lasting multiple days. Members participate in different support or rescue categories, depending on individual skills and participation levels. The team mission is:

  • Establish an organization to search for, rescue and assist persons in distress
  • Education
  • Assist other organizations with similar purposes
  • Provide assistance to civil authorities
  • Provide advice and expertise

North Shore Rescue is a volunteer community-based search and rescue team. Its members are from all walks of life but share a common interest in providing an important life-saving service to the public, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

  • OUR HISTORY

    The team was established in 1965, making it one of the oldest SAR teams in Canada. During its history, NSR has often taken the lead in developing techniques and protocols for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. NSR was one of the first BC Search and Rescue (SAR) teams to train in human tracking, use search dogs, establish a dive team, and develop special protocols for treating hypothermia victims.

    We do not support charging for rescues primarily due to the risk of a lost or injured person or their family/friends delaying a call for help.
